Guildford

The historic market town of Guildford is Surrey’s main commercial, financial, retail and administrative centre. Many national and international concerns have head office facilities there, including Allianz Insurance, Avaya, BOC Gases, Coutts, Detica, Electronic Arts, Ericsson, Royal Bank of Scotland, Sanofi-aventis UK and Syngenta.
A thriving service sector has grown up to serve them, including significant numbers of legal and accountancy practices and IT suppliers.
The University of Surrey, a centre of excellence for technology, science and engineering, is based on the outskirts of town and recently sold its spin out company Surrey Satellite Technology Limited to Europe’s leading space company EADS Astrium, in one of the largest cash spin-outs from any UK university.
Home to more than 14,000 students and 2,300 staff, the University is undertaking a £200 million investment programme to provide new accommodation for around 4,000 students and 300 staff, sports facilities and academic accommodation.
Other educational establishments include The College of Law, Guildford College of Further and Higher Education, as well as a range of well respected private and state schools.
The Government Office for the South East and the South East England Development Agency are based in Guildford too.
Located approximately 33 miles south west of central London, Guildford boasts excellent road, rail and air links. And at the very heart of all this is Greenwey.
